Wayne State University School of Medicine

The Wayne State University School of Medicine’s Older-Adult Home-Visit Program is designed to educate students from the School of Medicine; The Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences; and the School of Social Work about the unique psychosocial and health care needs of older adults. Serving 500 seniors each year, this interdisciplinary initiative helps students better understand the preferences and support systems of older adults; enlightens students to issues of aging; and fosters positive attitudes towards geriatric care. Community seniors receive functional and cognitive assessments; education on how to reduce their risk of falls; instructions on medication use and management; and evaluation of their support networks.
