Volunteers in Medicine (VIM)

Funding for this VIM program will support the provision of free medical care to low-income, uninsured seniors in the Chattanooga area. VIM uses a small paid staff to recruit and manage a group of medical and non-medical volunteers–many of whom are older adults themselves–to deliver care at significant savings: some five times less than standard clinic rates, and nearly 20 times less than typical emergency-room costs. Thus, the VIM program changes the lives of local seniors not only by improving health for its care recipients, but also by providing community-service opportunities for its volunteers.
