Our Case for Support
At the Home Instead Foundation, we see the opportunities a growing aging adult population creates. Older adults enrich our communities and our lives. The Foundation is committed to protecting the quality of life for all of these individuals, with the intent that every aging adult has the opportunity to age with dignity and independence. But we can’t do it alone.
The aging adult population is rapidly growing, yet our society is not prepared to handle this exponential growth. Every day in the United States, 10,000 people are turning 65 years old. Government funding is not keeping pace and nonprofit organizations are providing more services and programs with less funding. The Census Bureau reports one in seven aging adult is living in poverty. Yet, less than 2 percent of funding from the nation’s largest grant-makers, as well as donors at the grassroots level, are committed to aging adults.
The Foundation is leading the effort to inspire greater charitable giving in support of aging adults, and we won’t stop until the nation’s largest grant makers, as well as donors at the grassroots level are committed to helping less fortunate older adults. All aging adults deserve the chance to age with independence and dignity. We believe our work to help nonprofit organizations increase their capacity to care for this vulnerable population will have the greatest impact on those most in need.
